The Nijmegen Marches

How far is it?

The total distance is 160KM over 4 days… marching 40km each day!

This is a Team Challenge!

There are strict rules about taking part. The entire group has to walk as a team each day. We must start and finish together, as well as pass through a number of check points! This team element, not only adds another level to the challenge, it is also part of what makes Nijmegen, Nimegen. Start as a team… finish as a family…

Hotel and Travel

Our Walkers spoke and we listened…

This year, the Team will be staying at an all new venue, Center Parcs Het Heijderbos situated near Heijen, which is approx. 30 – 40 minutes from the start of the Marches in Nijmegen.

Taking part in the Nijmegen Marches means an early start each morning. But not to worry, Walk the Walk have you covered with transport both to and from the Start and Finish line each day.

Getting There

We suggest that you book a flight to Amsterdam where you will be able to take a train to Nijmegen, from here you can either pick up a taxi to the hotel around 40 mins away or you may choose to change and hop on a train to Boxmeer from where you can grab a taxi to the hotel around 15 mins away.

The team will meet at the Hotel on Monday morning!

Eating and Drinking during the Marches

Breakfast, lunch and dinner… we have you covered… from Monday 14 July evening meal through to Saturday 19 July!

The package includes a packed breakfast and lunch from Evergreenz Restaurant… plus along the route each day, you will find lots of stalls with farmers selling juicy watermelons and delicious nibbles to keep you going. There are also lots of supportive locals handing out cucumber, cheese, biscuits, crisps, and liquorice sweets, which are a local delicacy… you won’t go hungry!

For the evenings, included on Monday 14 July, a 3 course meal in one of the onsite restaurants plus from Tuesday 15 – Friday 19 July all you can eat buffet dinner at the Evergreenz … plus 2-hours of drinks included*

Day 1 – Monday 14 July 2025

Arrive in Amsterdam, Netherlands and travel to Hotel: Center Parcs, Het Heijderbos to meet the rest of your Walk the Walk team!

Day 2, 3, 4 and 5 – Tuesday 15 – Friday 18 July 2025

Time to tackle the Nijmegen Marches… the walk of a lifetime! 40km every day for 4 days, you will get to explore the very best of Nijmegen. Along with the marching feet of 45,000 others and side by side with your Walk the Walk family you will take part in this extraordinary walk of the world all the way to the Finish Line!

Day 6 – Saturday 19 July 2025

Home Time! Say goodbye to your new friends as you travel home with your medal, your memories and a sense of accomplishment you will cherish forever!

Nijmegen Marches Rules and Regulations 

The Nijmegen Marches is a 3rd party event run by De 4Daagse.

The rules and regulations of how to enter this challenge will be released to the public in January 2025.

Only once these have been released will Walk the Walk be able to confirm your place on this challenge.

If upon the release of De 4Daagse’s Terms and Conditions your registration does not fall inline with the event restrictions and your ability to take part in this challenge with Walk the Walk is impacted, you will be offered a full refund.

Age Restrictions

• Females of 18+ years can join the team
• Men have to be over the age of 50 (born in 1975 or earlier).

Due to the very strict organisers Rules and Regulations, females of 18+ can join the Walk the Walk Civilian Marching Team, however, males have a strict birth date criteria to join the 40K Team; any male born in 1974 or before, can join the 40K Team.

If you are male and born from 1975 to 2006, unfortunately, because of your age, you are unable to join our 40K Civilian Marching Team. If this applies to you, please email us for more information on your options to join the Marches.

Minimum Numbers

There is a minimum number requirement of 11 Walkers for us to take part as a Civilian Marching Team.

How much do I need to raise?

We ask that everyone who enters The Nijmegen Marches raises a minimum of £850. To help, we have broken this down, with fundraising deadlines along the way! For more information see here!

Can you help me with my fundraising?

Absolutely! We have a fantastic Fundraising Team who will help you along the way, by telephone and email.

Walk the Walk has been training teams for the last 25 years so we know exactly what you have to do!

For this challenge you will need to commit to training; A 14 week Training Plan will be sent out with your Walker Pack… it is intense and has consecutive training walks, so can be time-consuming. The Training Plan is like this so that your body is prepared to walk 40km distances over 4 consecutive days at a good walking speed. Alongside this, we also recommend taking part in other exercises such as swimming, weight training or pilates to increase your overall level of fitness.

Prior to starting the Training Plan in April, we recommend that you are able to comfortably walk a Marathon by this time and will provide a Marathon Training Plan.

The route is generally tarmac through towns and villages, with some small parts off-road, on footpaths and trails. The weather in Nijmegen is generally dry and can get hot, however, rain does fall!
